Is it possible to develop a fracture after he suffered a sprained ankle?

I recently sprained my ankle in October while playing in a basketball game. They took me to the doctor two days later and X-rays were taken, but there was no fracture. This was confirmed by two doctors and a therapist physical. The following weekend in November in two games I played more basketball. After those games, they took me to have an MRI. The results of MRI showed that he had a complete fracture of the right above the malleolus of the fibula, and seeing these results, the orthopedic surgeon said surprised! My question is, is it possible that the fracture is because I played in my ankle in a state of weakness? I really need a medical professional to respond this, and gives me a kind of test or medical documentation to support the above response. I need it for possible legal reasons, because I'm playing professional basketball, and the team is trying to get out of paying me for November because it is assumed that the fracture occurred in October but was not discovered until November.

You may have had a hairline or stress fracture or something that diagnostic X-rays do not pick up. I am sure that the doctor showed him the X-rays and slides of MRI? They are completely different as shown by how images are taken.
