There is something of a wood frame house that gives a warm and rustic. Even a large modern house, log cabin still in that regard.
A real wood frame house has huge exposed beams with handcrafted together without interlocking nails. This building technique is thousands of years, originating the1600 North America Europe through migration. It was the accepted form of construction until mid-19th century when the beams have been replaced by two-by-fours and stick frame construction of this column.
The frame is assembled using wooden beams, girders, as Douglas fir and white pine, are linked together by a "shroud" (the hole) and the "pin" (the language), and kept the oak pegs. The frame is closed with insulated panels and 2×4 or 2×6 walls with nails.
Timber frame houses are ideal for designs with an open concept of the outer box provides all the support, and no interior walls. The strong beams allow large rooms, open and high vaulted ceilings. It is not unusual to see high ceilings in wooden frames as much as two stories.
Not to be confused with wooden houses, which are made of wood and non-stick (2 x 4) and gypsum. Also, do not be confused with post and beam homes that can be made of wood instead of balls solids. Instead of the traditional interlocking joints, post and beam builders use the brackets and nails.
The heating bills are much less raised on a wood frame house, homeowners often see 20% to 50% discount on your utility bill. If you plan to spend your home their children, no problem, wooden houses are built to last hundreds of years. These homes are incredibly strong and are much better equipped to handle stress of earthquakes that of conventional houses.

Visit some of the logging companies, explore their model homes and research the various plans that are available. This should give you an idea of the costs and can establish some sort of project budget. After that, decide whether to assert the role of general contractor or if you plant hire someone for the position.
