The Benefits of Phillips HID Kit
Night driving has caused more accidents compared to daytime driving. One of the many reasons would be poor road lighting conditions. Governments have tried their best to address the situation by installing different types of road markings and warnings. To many drivers it does not work under adverse weather conditions. Much more for drunk or drug-crazed drivers! Usually it is the dark of the night that causes the accidents. Good lighting promotes better driving conditions and this is where High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights for vehicles come in. The Phillips HID kit and automotive repair manuals are available for different makes and models. Replacing or upgrading your headlights is not an ordinary task and you should inform the parts dealer on the make and model where you intend to use the kit.
Before HID, the preferred headlight bulbs were the Halogen bulbs. They are good lighting and far reaching headlights. Only it has some sensitivity especially when touched by bare hands. Skin oil could make its life shorter or pre-maturely burn-out. A regular car owner replacing his headlight bulbs with halogen might not be aware. So as not to mess up things with lighting and ending up with no headlights at all at night, better consult an auto shop or parts dealer for proper connection, and conversion if necessary. Some customized cars have relays installed to energize headlights better; this one will really need the expertise of a car electrician. Having it installed will usually take somewhere between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the make and model. Easy access to the headlight assembly should take lesser time for installation.
If available, ask for a light demo from parts dealers. They should have some type of facility or way to show you the difference between a Halogen bulb and a Phillips HID kit. The demo should clearly define and show the difference of the two lights being beamed. Just like they say proof is “in the eating of the pudding”. The only complaint about HIDs comes from motorists who encounter those equipped on head on traffic. On a personal account, I get irritated meeting HID equipped vehicles, especially on long stretches. It has a bluish glare that my eyes could not stand. My tendency is to slow down and look away from those headlights. Well, we have individual differences. Others might not be comfortable with oncoming traffic that has Halogen headlights.
For additional information, Phillips HID Kits usually contain two HID bulb modules lighting, two each of digital ballasts, rubber grommets and wiring harnesses, mounting system and an installation manual with instructions/haynes repair manuals. Life expectancy of the HID Bulb, under normal circumstances, is around 2,500 hours or a little more, something like 5 years of actual night driving. A piece of advice, use headlights that are comfortable for your eyes and with your driving. It is what you are comfortable with that makes things safer.
