What do my engine numbers mean?
I have a 289 in a 66 Ford Fairlane 500 and on the intake manifold it says “289″ with a “17″ up under it. We have a 65 Ford Mustang with a 289 in it and it has an “18″ up under the 289 and I was wondering what they meant.
Those are casting numbers…and may or may not mean anything…the rough casting could be machines into several different parts for different cars/engines. My 390 Ford has “352″ cast into the block, since they are the same basic engine block.
