People from every period of time were superstitious witch, most evil witch who would do them harm. They took everything and every step needed care to repel witches spells into their homes. Some German immigrants to Pennsylvania in the 1700s used "Hex Designs' to conjure bad luck. Hex means witch in German and of course Hex is also a Greek root word for six. These six beautiful face geometric designs, hexagrams were painted on the doors of the posts and what was regarded as a very important piece of furniture hope chest.
The hope chest, also known as a dowry chest or blanket chest all the furniture in the house of newlyweds held household items like quilts, blankets and baby clothes. More importantly, these boxes required coverage as family heirlooms. These drawings are very colorful when added to the hope chest. This has created a warm atmosphere in the room where he placed the blanket chest.
